Configuring Competency Evaluation Methods

How admins decide what determines a talent's current competency level, and how to configure the AI Competency Assessment, Psychometric Assessments, Performance Data, and Learning Analytics methods.

Written by Qasim

Before You Start

  • You must have Admin access.

  • A well-structured competency framework should be in place under Competencies > Framework.

  • Your organization's structure (org chart) should be configured.

  • Your company profile should be filled out.

📝 Note: These three inputs: the competency framework, org structure, and company profile, help the AI generate more precise and accurate summaries, recommendations, and evaluations.

Overview

The Evaluation Methods page is where admins decide what determines a talent's current competency level. Multiple methods can be enabled at once, each with its own configuration and assigned weight. So a talent's level can be calculated from a blend of sources rather than a single assessment.

Accessing Evaluation Methods

  1. From the Admin panel sidebar, click Competencies.

  2. Click Analysis.

  3. Click Manage Methods in the top right corner.

This opens the Evaluation Methods page.

Setting the Frequency

At the top of the page, under Frequency, choose how often these methods should reassess talents: Off, Every 1 Months, Every 3 Months, Every 6 Months, Every 9 Months, Every 12 Months, or Custom.

Choosing and Weighting Evaluation Methods

The Evaluation Methods list shows every available method. Use the All Methods / Direct Methods / AI Methods tabs to filter the list.

To set up your evaluation methods:

  1. Click the checkbox beside each method you want to include.

  2. Assign a Weight (%) to each enabled method. Weights across all enabled methods should add up to 100%, as shown in the Summary at the bottom of the page.

  3. Click Configurations (or Select Assessments, for Psychometric Assessment) next to a method to set it up, if it requires configuration.

  4. Once finished, click Save Changes.

Currently available methods:

  • AI Competency Assessment

  • Psychometric Assessment

  • Performance Data

  • Resume / LinkedIn Parsing — this method only requires a weight; it has no additional configuration

  • Learning Analytics

We'll go through the configuration steps for four of these methods below.

Configuring the AI Competency Assessment

Click Configurations next to AI Competency Assessment to set:

  • Assessment Timeframe: the time limit for the assessment, in minutes

  • Number of Questions per Competency

  • AI Instructions (optional): guide how the AI generates the assessment, including scenario style, difficulty, focus areas, or question approach

Click See Example to preview a sample assessment, then click Save Changes.

Configuring Psychometric Assessments

Click Select Assessments next to Psychometric Assessment. This opens a two-step flow.

Step 1: Scope of Selection

Choose who this applies to: All Talents, Divisions, Departments, Roles, or Talent. Click Next.

Step 2: Selection of Assessments

  • If you chose All Talents: select the assessments you want from the Assessments list. They'll be assigned to everyone in the organization.

  • If you chose Talent: select each talent from the Talents list on the left, then choose which assessments that specific talent should take from the Assessments list on the right. Repeat for each talent you want to assign.

Click Save Selection.

📝 Note: Divisions, Departments, and Roles follow the same flow as Talent, you'll select each division, department, or role individually and choose which assessments it should be assigned, the same way you would for individual talents.

Configuring Performance Data

Click Configurations next to Performance Data to set how performance data will work:

  • AI Will Use Latest Cycles Data: the AI automatically uses the most recent performance cycle(s)

  • Select Specific Cycles Data: manually choose which performance cycles to include

If you choose Select Specific Cycles Data, use Search by cycle name to find a cycle, check the ones to include, and enter a weight (%) for each selected cycle.

Click Save Changes.

Configuring Learning Analytics

Click Configurations next to Learning Analytics to set how learning data will work:

  • AI Will Use All Learning Data and Assign Levels: the AI evaluates all relevant learning activity and determines levels automatically

  • Map Level based on Learning Hours: set a specific hour range for each competency level (1 Beginner, 2 Knowledgeable, 3 Capable, 4 Skillful, 5 Expert), from a minimum to a maximum number of hours

Click Rest Default to restore the default hour ranges, or Save Changes to apply your changes.

📝 Note: These hour ranges only count learning material that's linked to the talent's assigned competency, not the talent's total learning hours across the platform. A talent needs to complete learning content tied to a specific competency in the competency framework for that competency's level to progress.

FAGs

Do the weights across all enabled methods need to add up to 100%?

Yes. The Summary at the bottom of the page tracks your Total Weight, and you can't click Save Changes until it reaches 100%.

Can I use more than one evaluation method?

Yes, enable multiple methods and assign a weight to each. The talent's overall competency level is calculated from the combination.

Does Resume / LinkedIn Parsing need any configuration?

No, it only needs a weight assigned; there are no additional settings.

How does Learning Analytics determine a talent's level from learning hours?

Only completed learning material linked to that specific competency counts toward the hour thresholds you set, not the talent's total learning hours across the platform.
