Self Reviews

Understand how the Self Review step works how talents rate their own performance on each goal and how managers use those ratings as context during the Manager Review step.

Before You Begin

  • The Self Review step is optional and must be added to the workflow in Step 5: Work Flow by the admin. It does not appear automatically.

  • The Self Review step is typically placed before the Manager Review step so the manager can see the talent's self-rating while completing their own evaluation.

  • Only the talent themselves completes the Self Review. The manager cannot edit it.

  • The self-review ratings do not directly calculate the talent's final performance score. They are visible to the manager for context during their own review.

What Self Review Is For

The Self Review step gives talents the opportunity to rate their own performance on each goal before the manager does. Using the same rating scale configured for the cycle, the talent selects a rating for each goal and adds a comment. When the manager later opens the Manager Review form, the talent's self-ratings are visible alongside the goal data, giving the manager fuller context.

How Talents Find a Pending Self Review

When the Self Review step opens, the talent receives a notification. Pending self-reviews are accessible from two places:

Things To-Do (Home) — The home dashboard shows a pending task for the self-review with the cycle name and deadline.

Notifications — The bell icon shows a direct notification linking to the self-review form.

Completing the Self Review

Click the pending self-review task to open the self-review form. The form has the same layout as the Manager Review: a Performance Areas panel on the left and a Reviews panel on the right.

Performance Areas Panel (Left)

The left panel shows the talent's full performance data for reference while they fill in their self-review. It contains the same collapsible sections as the manager sees:

  • Goals — each goal with its status (On Track / Off Track), KPI progress percentage, target value, and deadline

  • Competencies — competency entries on the sheet

  • Appraisals — appraisal data if configured

  • Trainings — training records linked to the sheet

  • Potential — potential indicators if enabled

Reviews Panel (Right)

The right panel shows one goal at a time with the question "How would you rate your performance for this goal?" The talent selects a number from the rating scale (for example, 1 to 5). Once selected, the rating label and a description appear automatically — for example, selecting 2 might show "Below Expectations" with an explanation of what that means.

After selecting a rating, the talent writes a Comment to share any feedback, context, or notes about their performance on that goal.

Moving Through Goals

After completing the rating and comment for the current goal, click Next Goal to save and move to the next goal. A Previous Goal link lets the talent go back if needed. Repeat until all goals have been rated.

FAQ

Do the self-review ratings affect the talent's final performance score?

It depends on how your organization has configured the performance score in the Equation Builder. The final score is calculated using the components and weightings defined there. If self-review ratings are included in the equation, they will contribute to the final score. Otherwise, they are used for reference only and do not affect the final performance score.

Can the manager edit the talent's self-review?

No. The self-review is the talent's own input. The manager can view it but cannot change it.

What happens if the talent does not complete the self-review before the deadline?

The Self Review step closes when its timeline ends. Unlike the Acknowledgment step, there is no auto-submission for the Self Review. Goals that were not rated will appear blank for the manager.

Can the admin see self-reviews?

Yes. Admins can view submitted self-reviews from the Participants tab in cycle management.
