Before You Begin
Appraisals Settings is part of Step 3: Cycle Configurations.
This section only appears if you enabled Appraisal in Step 2: Cycle Components.
Appraisals is powered by AI. You can use the Ask AI button to generate question suggestions.
Navigating to Appraisals Settings
In Step 3: Cycle Configurations, the Appraisal section appears as a collapsed row. Click on it to expand. The Appraisal section shows a form builder with existing sections and questions, or an empty state if no questions have been added yet.
Form Structure
The appraisal form is organized into sections. Each section contains one or more questions. You can have multiple sections to group related questions together for example, one section for behavioral questions and another for achievement questions.
Managing Sections
Adding a Section
Click + Add Section at the bottom of the Appraisal area to add a new form section. Each new section appears as a row that you can expand to add questions.
Reordering and Editing Sections
Each section row has:
A drag handle (six-dot grid icon) on the left to reorder sections by dragging.
An edit icon to rename the section.
Collapse/expand arrows to show or hide the section's questions.
A delete icon to remove the section and all its questions.
Adding Questions
Inside a section, you can add questions using three methods:
Add Question
Click + Add Question to add a question manually. Choose the question type:
Rating scale question — Presents a numeric or label-based scale for the reviewer to select from. The scale uses the rating labels configured in Step 4: Rating Settings.
Open text question — A free-text field for qualitative responses.
Enter the question text in the field that appears. The question appears in the section immediately.
Questions Bank
Click Questions Bank to browse and import pre-built questions from your organization's question library. Select one or more questions from the bank and add them to the current section.
Ask AI
Click Ask AI to generate question suggestions using AI. Describe the topic or competency area you want to assess and AI will suggest relevant questions. Review and accept the suggestions you want to add.
Managing Questions
Each question row has a collapse/expand arrow and a three-dot menu. From the menu you can edit the question text, duplicate the question, or delete it.
Questions can be reordered by dragging within the section.
Weights
The Weights toggle at the bottom of the Appraisal section allows you to assign scoring weights to sections or individual questions.
When OFF, all appraisal questions contribute equally to the appraisal score.
When ON, you can assign custom weight percentages to sections, questions, or both. The total weights must equal 100%.
Uploading
Click Uploading to import a pre-built appraisal form from a file. This replaces the current form content with the uploaded structure.
