Performance Cycle Creation: 3.2 Competencies Configuration

Assign which competencies apply to each job level in this cycle and set their weights.

Written by Mohamed Shantory

Before You Begin

  • Competencies Settings is part of Step 3: Cycle Configurations.

  • This section only appears if you enabled Competencies in Step 2: Cycle Components.

  • Your organization's competency library must be set up before you can assign competencies to job levels. If the competency library is empty, contact your Super Admin to populate it first.

  • Competencies Settings uses a two-step modal wizard that opens when you interact with the Competencies section in Step 3.

Navigating to Competencies Settings

In Step 3: Cycle Configurations, the Competencies section appears as a collapsed row. Click on it to expand. Inside the Competencies section, click the configuration button to open the Selection of Competencies modal.

The Selection of Competencies Modal

The modal has two steps: Scope of Selection and Selection of Competencies.

Step 1: Scope of Selection

In this step, you define which job levels will have competencies assigned in this cycle. Lumofy uses your existing job level structure.

Select the job levels that apply to this cycle. The job levels available are drawn from your organization's configuration and may include Entry Level, Junior, Mid-Level, Senior, Lead, Expert, or custom levels your organization has defined.

You must select at least one job level to proceed to Step 2.

Click Next to continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Selection of Competencies

In this step, you select which competencies apply to each job level and assign weights.

The modal shows two panels:

  • Left panel — Job Levels: Lists all job levels you selected in Step 1. Click a job level to view and edit its competency assignments. The badge next to each job level shows how many competencies are currently assigned.

  • Right panel — Competencies: Shows all competencies in your library. Check the box next to each competency to include it for the selected job level. For each checked competency, enter its weight percentage.

Adjust Weights Automatically

The Adjust weights automatically checkbox, when enabled, distributes weights equally across all selected competencies. For example, if you select 5 competencies, each receives 20%. Weights update automatically as you add or remove competencies.

When disabled, you enter each weight manually. The total weight across all competencies for a job level must equal 100%.

Saving Competency Assignments

After assigning competencies and weights for all job levels, click Save Selection. The modal closes and returns you to the Step 3 page. A summary of assigned competencies appears in the Competencies section.

To discard changes, click Cancel. To go back to Step 1, click Back.

FAQ

What if a talent's job level has no competencies assigned?

Talents at job levels with no competencies assigned will not have a competencies section on their performance sheet for this cycle. Assign competencies to all job levels you want evaluated.

Can I assign different competencies to different job levels?

Yes. That is the purpose of the job level selection in Step 1 and the competency picker in Step 2. Each job level can have a completely different set of competencies and weights.

Does "Adjust weights automatically" apply across all job levels or just the selected one?

It applies to the currently selected job level in the left panel. You can enable or disable it independently for each job level.

Can I return and change competency assignments after clicking Save Selection?

Yes. You can re-open the Selection of Competencies modal from the Step 3 page at any time before launching the cycle.

What happens if competency weights for a job level do not total 100%?

The system will not allow you to save until weights sum to exactly 100% for each assigned job level.
