Before You Start

  • You must be a Super Admin or an Admin with content management permissions

  • Your SCORM package must be ready and exported from your authoring tool before importing

  • Maximum file size: 500 MB

What Is SCORM?

SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is a standard format for e-learning content. If your organisation has built courses in external authoring tools such as Articulate, iSpring, Adobe Captivate, or similar, you can export them as SCORM packages and import them directly into Lumofy — without rebuilding the content.

Lumofy tracks Talent progress and completion using its own tracking method. Once a Talent finishes the SCORM course, their completion is recorded in Lumofy the same way as any other content type.

How to Import a SCORM Course

Step 1: Start Course Creation

  1. Go to Develop → Content Builder

  2. Click Add New in the top right corner

  3. Select Course from the dropdown

  4. In the modal that appears, click Import a SCORM3

Step 2: Course Details

Fill in the course information — this is identical to the Content Builder flow:

  • Course's Name — the title Talents will see

  • Description — a summary of what the course covers

  • Objectives — add up to 40 learning objectives

💡 Tip: Click + Add Arabic Language if you want the course metadata (name, description, objectives) to also appear in Arabic.

Click Next to continue.

Step 3: Upload the SCORM File

The Content Builder step is replaced by the Course Content upload screen.

  1. Click or drag your SCORM file into the upload area

  2. Wait for the upload to complete

File requirements:

  • Format: SCORM package file (typically exported as a .zip from your authoring tool)

  • Maximum file size: 500 MB

  • Single file only

After a successful upload, the uploaded file is shown in the upload area. If you need to replace it, click the file to remove it and upload a new one.

Click Next to continue to Course Configuration.

Step 4: Course Configuration

This step is identical to the Content Builder flow. Set:

  • Level — difficulty level

  • Duration — estimated completion time in minutes

  • Accreditation Type / Units (optional)

  • Issue a certificate upon completion — toggle on if needed

  • Competencies (optional) — link to competencies the course develops

  • Categories (optional) — for discovery and organisation

  • Resources (optional) — attach supporting files or links

  • Cover (optional) — JPG, PNG, or SVG thumbnail (max 2 MB)

  • Branding — Primary Color (Default or Custom)

Publishing Your SCORM Course

At the bottom of the Course Configuration step:

  • Save as Draft — saves the course without making it visible to Talents

  • Next — publishes the course and makes it available to assign or add to Pathways

⚠️ Note: A course must be published before it can be assigned to Talents or added to a Pathway.

How Completion Is Tracked

Lumofy tracks Talent progress and completion using its own method. When a Talent completes the SCORM course, their completion is recorded in Lumofy — the same way as any other course type. Progress is visible in the Content Builder enrolment view and in any Pathway the course is part of.

FAQs

What authoring tools can export SCORM files?

Most professional e-learning authoring tools support SCORM export, including Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, iSpring Suite, Adobe Captivate, and Lectora.

Can I edit the SCORM content inside Lumofy after uploading?

No. SCORM packages are complete, self-contained files. To update the content, make changes in your authoring tool, export a new SCORM file, and replace the file in Lumofy

Can I replace the SCORM file after publishing?

Yes. Open the course, go to Edit, and in the Course Content step you can remove the current file and upload a new one.

Can a SCORM course be added to a Pathway?

Yes. Once published, a SCORM course appears in the content library and can be added to a Pathway milestone the same as any other course.

What is the difference between a SCORM course and a Content Builder course?

Content Builder course is built directly inside Lumofy using the built-in editor. A SCORM course is created externally in an authoring tool and imported as a finished package. Both appear identically to Talents and track completion the same way.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes. The maximum SCORM file size is 500 MB.
