How to complete your performance sheet adding goals, linking them to department or division targets, setting competency weights, defining KPIs, and adding training needs before submitting for review.

Written by Mohamed Shantory

Overview

Your performance sheet is where you define and document your performance commitments for the cycle. Depending on your organization's configuration, you may be asked to fill in one or more of the following:

  • Goals — what you aim to achieve this cycle

  • Competencies — the weights you assign to each competency area (if self-weighting is enabled)

  • KPIs — specific measurable indicators tied to your goals

  • Training Needs — development activities that will support your performance

Your admin controls which sections appear and whether each is required or optional.

How to Open Your Performance Sheet

When your performance sheet is ready for you to fill in, a task appears in Things To Do on your dashboard.

  1. On your dashboard, find the task in the Things To Do section it will indicate that your performance sheet is open for input.

  2. Click the task to open your sheet directly.

  3. Your sheet opens in a multi-tab view. Each tab corresponds to a section of the sheet.

Adding Goals

In the Goals section of your sheet, click Add Goal to open the goal form. Fill in the fields:

  • Goal Title — a short name for the goal

  • Description — what you will do and how you will measure success

  • Weight — the percentage this goal contributes to your overall score (all goal weights must sum to 100%)

  • Due Date — the target completion date

Linking to a Department or Division Goal

If your admin has enabled parent goal alignment, a goal picker field appears in the form. Click it to browse department or division goals and select the one your goal aligns with. Linking shows your manager how your individual work connects to the broader organizational target.

If this field is not visible, parent goal alignment has not been enabled for your cycle.

KPI Fields

If your admin has enabled KPIs for goals, KPI input fields appear directly in the goal form — you do not need to add them manually. Fill in each KPI as shown:

  • Title — what is being measured (e.g., "Customer Satisfaction Score")

  • Measurement — for numerical KPIs, select the unit from: Percentage, Currency, or Number

  • Target Value — the number you aim to reach by end of cycle

If no KPI fields appear, your admin has not enabled them for this cycle.

Editing or Deleting a Goal

To edit a goal, click the edit icon on it. Update any fields or KPI values and save. To delete, click the delete icon and confirm. You can only delete goals you created, and only before the sheet is locked or submitted.

Competencies Section

If your admin has enabled competency input, a Competencies section appears on your sheet alongside Goals and Training Needs it is not a separate tab.

Each competency is shown as a collapsed row. Click a competency to expand it and fill in what your admin has enabled:

  • Weight — the percentage this competency contributes to your overall score. All competency weights must sum to 100%.

  • KPI — a text-based description of how you will demonstrate this competency (if enabled by admin).

Work through each competency, expand and fill in the required fields, and continue. There is no Save button per competency everything is saved when you submit the sheet.

If the Competencies section is not visible, your admin has either pre-assigned values or excluded this section from the employee step.

Adding Training Needs

Training needs are development activities or programs that will help you grow the skills required to achieve your goals. You can add them manually or select from Lumofy's content library.

Option A: Select from Lumofy

  1. Go to the Training Needs tab on your performance sheet.

  2. Click Add Training Need.

  3. Select From Lumofy.

  4. Browse or search the content library — courses, pathways, and programs available in Lumofy appear here.

  5. Select the item and confirm. It is added to your training needs list.

Option B: Add Manually

  1. Go to the Training Needs tab.

  2. Click Add Training Need.

  3. Select Add Manually.

  4. Fill in the details:

    • Training Title — name of the course or program

    • Provider — where the training will take place (optional)

    • Type — e.g., Course, Workshop, Conference, On-the-job

    • Expected Completion Date — when you plan to complete it

  5. Click Save.

Submitting Your Performance Sheet

Once all required sections are complete, you can submit your sheet for review.

  1. Review all tabs — Goals, Competencies (if applicable), and Training Needs.

  2. Confirm goal weights sum to 100% and all required fields are filled.

  3. Click Submit at the top or bottom of the sheet.

  4. A confirmation prompt appears — click Confirm to submit.

Once submitted, your sheet moves to the next stage in the cycle workflow. You may not be able to edit it after submission depending on your admin's configuration.|

What Happens After Submission

If Approval Is Required

Your admin may have configured an approval step. In this case:

  • After you submit, your sheet enters Pending Approval status.

  • Your manager reviews your submitted goals, weights, and training needs.

  • They may Approve the sheet as-is, or Send Back with comments asking you to revise.

If sent back:

  1. You receive a notification and the sheet reappears in your Things To Do.

  2. Review the manager's comments.

  3. Make the requested changes.

  4. Resubmit.

If No Approval Step

Your sheet moves directly to the active state after submission. Goals and KPIs are locked and the cycle tracking begins.

FAQ

My goal weights do not add up to 100%. Can I still submit?

No. The sheet validates total goal weight before submission. You must adjust your goal weights so they sum exactly to 100% before the Submit button activates.

Can I edit my goals after submitting?

Only if your manager sends the sheet back for revision, or if the admin re-opens the submission window. Once approved or locked, goals cannot be edited.

How do I know if my sheet needs manager approval?

After submitting, check the sheet status badge. If it shows Pending Approval, approval is part of your cycle. If it moves directly to Active, no approval step applies.

My manager sent the sheet back where do I see their comments?

Open your performance sheet from Things To Do or My Performance. Comments from your manager appear in a panel at the top or next to the relevant section.
